AI opportunity assessment — know before you build.
A focused two-week engagement that maps every viable AI and automation opportunity inside your business, ranks them by ROI, and delivers a board-ready roadmap. No pitch. No commitment to build. Just the clarity you need to move with confidence.
The Starting Point
What is an AI opportunity assessment?
Most AI projects fail not because the technology is wrong, but because companies skip the step where they figure out what they actually need. An AI opportunity assessment fixes that.
An AI opportunity assessment is a structured, time-boxed engagement — typically two weeks — in which an experienced AI team maps your current operations, identifies every workflow where AI or automation could reduce cost or increase throughput, and ranks those opportunities by business value, implementation effort, and risk.
At PieSoft.ai we've delivered AI opportunity assessments across healthcare, insurance, manufacturing, logistics, and financial services. We've seen the full spectrum: companies sitting on a $2M automation opportunity they didn't know existed; and companies ready to spend $800k on an AI project whose root problem was bad data — not missing intelligence. We've told both kinds of client the truth. That reputation is how we've built a 4.9/5 rating on Clutch.
The output is not a vendor pitch. It is a ranked register of opportunities, cost and time estimates, a build/buy/wait recommendation for each, and a 12-month roadmap with clear go/no-go gates. About a third of our assessments end with a no-build recommendation — we consider that a success, because we've just saved a client from an expensive mistake.
If you're a business leader who has heard the AI conversation at the board level and wants to know what it means for your specific operations — this is where to start. You will leave with a clear picture of where the money is, what it would take to capture it, and whether PieSoft.ai is the right team to help you do it. How It Works
Our three-step assessment process.
Two weeks. Three phases. A deliverable you can act on immediately — or sit on until your budget cycle opens. No pressure, either way.
Step 01
Workflow Discovery
Our team spends the first week working alongside your people — not watching from a conference room. We map every recurring workflow: what triggers it, who touches it, how long it takes, what goes wrong, and what it costs when it does. We look at the actual data, the actual tools, and the actual handoffs. Most clients discover two or three significant bottlenecks they had stopped noticing because they'd become normal.
Includes:
Stakeholder interviews · System access review · Process timing analysis · Data quality audit
Step 02
Opportunity Ranking
We score every identified opportunity against four dimensions: expected value (how much it saves or earns), implementation effort (engineer-weeks plus integration complexity), data readiness (do you have what AI needs to work?), and risk (what breaks if this goes wrong?). Then we stack-rank them. The top item is not necessarily the biggest — it is the one with the best risk-adjusted return you can realistically pursue this year. We explain the ranking in plain language, not spreadsheet notation.
Includes:
ROI modelling · Effort estimation · Data readiness score · Risk-adjusted ranking
Step 03
Roadmap & Briefing
We hand you a 12-month roadmap with the top three opportunities scoped in detail — architecture, cost, timeline, and the decision you need to make at each gate. We build the executive briefing deck at the same time so there is no translation step between our work and your boardroom. We then walk you through everything in a two-hour review session, take every question your team has, and you leave with a document you own entirely. You are never obligated to work with us beyond this point.
Includes:
12-month roadmap · Fixed-price quotes · Executive deck · 2-hour review session
Outcomes
What clients do with the results.
An AI opportunity assessment is not a report that lives in a drawer. Here is what happens when clients act on the findings.
Insurance · 2025
Claims processing automated — same team handles 70% more volume
Assessment identified routine claims as the highest-value automation target. Build followed three months later. Today 71% of claims self-resolve with no human touch. Adjusters handle only complex cases — and they handle them faster because the system pulls the relevant policy clauses automatically.
FinServ · 2024
Assessment recommended not building — and saved $1.4M
A financial services firm wanted to build an AI decision engine. Two weeks into our assessment, the root problem was data quality — AI would have embedded that problem more deeply and more expensively. We recommended a no-build with a data remediation plan first. The client estimated we saved them $1.4M in misdirected spend.
Retail · 2025
Marketing team doubled output — no new headcount
Assessment flagged brief production as the biggest time sink in marketing operations. We built an AI research-and-briefing assistant that handles competitive analysis, keyword research, and brief structure. Revenue from organic search grew 38% within eight months. The team kept full editorial control — they just stopped spending three days per brief.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does an AI opportunity assessment take?
+
The standard engagement is two weeks from kick-off to final deliverable. Week one is discovery: we interview your team, walk the workflows, and review your systems and data. Week two is analysis and synthesis: we score and rank every opportunity, build the roadmap, and prepare the executive briefing. The two-hour review session typically happens on day fourteen or fifteen. We can compress to ten business days if your calendar requires it; we don't recommend stretching beyond three weeks, because the analysis loses momentum.
What does an AI opportunity assessment cost?
+
We price on a fixed-fee basis quoted before we start — no surprises. The investment depends on the number of departments we need to cover and the complexity of your tech stack. For most mid-market businesses (50–500 employees, two to five core systems) the fee is in the range clients typically recover within the first quarter of acting on a single recommendation. We'll give you an exact number on our first call — usually within 48 hours of that conversation. If the business case for the assessment itself doesn't stack up, we'll tell you that too.
What do we get at the end?
+
You receive five deliverables: (1) an opportunity register listing 8–15 ranked AI candidates with ROI, effort, and risk scores; (2) detailed cost and timeline estimates for the top three; (3) a build/buy/wait recommendation for each opportunity; (4) a 12-month sequenced roadmap with go/no-go decision gates; and (5) an executive briefing deck formatted for your board or leadership team. Everything is written in plain language. You own all of it outright — no license, no lock-in, no requirement to work with PieSoft.ai to use it.
Do we have to build after the assessment?
+
Absolutely not. About a third of our assessments end without a build recommendation from us — because the data isn't ready, the ROI doesn't justify the effort yet, or an off-the-shelf tool covers the need adequately. We consider those outcomes a success, not a failure. The assessment is a standalone engagement with a fixed scope and a fixed fee. If you choose to build, we'd love to be your team — but you can take the deliverables to any vendor, your internal team, or a different consultancy. The work belongs to you.
What industries do you serve?
+
We go deep in healthcare (EHR-adjacent workflows, prior-authorisation, care coordination), insurance (claims handling, underwriting, policy administration), manufacturing and industrial (quality inspection, IoT, operations analytics), and logistics (dispatch, tracking, exception management). We also work across financial services, retail, and B2B SaaS — but if your sector isn't on that list, book a call anyway. The underlying patterns of manual work, document handling, and human-in-the-loop decisions repeat across industries. If we've seen your problem before, we'll say so. If we haven't, we'll say that too. PieSoft.ai is headquartered in Bethlehem, PA with a delivery team in Gdańsk — we serve clients across North America and Europe.
Start with a conversation — not a contract.
Thirty minutes on the phone. No slide deck, no NDAs required upfront. We'll ask about the work that's slow or expensive, share what we'd look for, and give you an honest read on whether an AI opportunity assessment is the right next step for your business. Clients in healthcare, insurance, manufacturing, and logistics — from Bethlehem, PA to Gdańsk — have built P&L-moving AI programs starting exactly here.
